Bit-Smacker: The name "Bit-Smacker" was inspired from a 1990's statement by Id Software, the makers of some of the first successful first-person shooter video games, about perceived violence in video games. Their explanation was that only pixels (a.k.a. bits) are being harmed. All computer-based data is stored and processed as binary bits, and I have created, manipulated, and destroyed many trillions of them during my I.T. career. Consultant Background: My name is Derek Schwartz. With over 16 years of experience in Information Technology, I have a Master of Science degree in Information Management from the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. I started my career as a contractor, providing desktop computer support for a large computer manufacturing company. After several more contracts at other large technology companies, I advanced into server and LAN administration and further extended my skills to include system scripting and system automation. This eventually led to software development of server, desktop, and web applications running on-premises or hosted in the Internet cloud. I am currently employed full-time, but I provide technical consulting services in my spare time. My customers: Primarily small and medium-sized businesses, my customers can benefit from doing more with less via Information Systems automation and consulting services. As a business matures, the existing set of tools and staff (which may have previously functioned well) are no longer efficient or cost-effective. The business systems may also contain erroneous data or data that cannot be efficiently linked or retrieved to allow accurate and timely decision making by management teams. After outsourcing many I.T. functions to various "cloud" providers, in-house I.T. support personnel may no longer provide a positive R.O.I. for continued employment. Once the decision has been made to terminate on-premises I.T. staff, occasional situations may require the I.T. skills that are no longer available. What I can do for my customers: I provide consulting services to address business needs for automation, efficiency, continuity of business operation, and disaster recovery. In certain situations, I provide custom software design and implementation. |
